Evelyn, born about 1940s is an Anmatyerre woman and outstanding artist from the Utopia Region about 240 km North East of Alice Springs. Like her late aunt Emily Kame Kngwarreye and her late brother Greeny Purvis, Evelyn’s totem is the bush yam (Antwelarr) which has been a source of food for the Anmatyerre people since time began. It is a plant with yellow flowers and edible tubers. It is Evelyn’s responsibility to pay respect to her totem (Antwelarr) through song and dance in ceremony and does so through her paintings in vibrant colours.
